Streetfood in Park Lane
I’ve been given a gastronomic salute for which I’ll be firing up my tuk tuk, as I head for Lanes of London in Mayfair, the stylish all-day dining restaurant in Mayfair. The glamorous Park Lane restaurant and bar has named me as their ‘Food Hero’ and part of a regularly rotating guest menu item, which aims to champion the most exciting food trends from around the capital.
Sitting alongside the delectable Lanes of London menu of small plates such as beef brisket sliders and duck hash is my ‘Tiffin Board’ (£12). The board features four delicious street food dishes, carefully selected and inspired by the sights, sounds and flavours of the Indian sub-continent: ‘Shami Kebab’ (minced lamb kebabs with Indian spices), ‘Aloo Tikki’ (potato and cumin cutlets), ‘Paneer Pakoras’ (India’s national cheese dipped in a crispy tempura), and ‘Masala Fried Whitebait’ (garam masala crusted whitebait, rinsed in lime).
For me, putting Indian street food on the Mayfair foodie map is like wearing your best trainers with a tux...individual, daring and playful. That's the reason why the pairing between Lanes of London and Urban Rajah is so exciting and I’m honoured to be their guest Food Hero. Together with Anshu, Head Chef at Lanes, I’ve been trialling recipes and working on dishes which are set to leave London's spice buds begging for more. My street food Tiffin Board comprises tastes from across the Indian sub-continent on one platter in one place... Lanes.
“Urban Rajah is a true London foodie who is passionate and well respected within the industry. His great sense of style and humour is reflected in his food, which in turn complements our versatile menu of dishes from around the world.” Anshu Anghotra, Head Chef at Lanes of London.
Lanes of London is housed in a late Edwardian mansion block on Park Lane, just a stone’s throw from the bustle of Oxford Street, offering a mix of British and international dishes in a stylish yet casual environment. With a newly redesigned menu of small plates to share, Lanes is the perfect place to come for business breakfasts, midweek lunches and relaxed dinners with friends.
So fire up the Tuk Tuk and we’ll see you there…
