A Private Party

A milestone birthday required a set of memories to be created, cherished and consumed. Waving goodbye to shot slamming days I embraced maturity with a degree of hesitation and relief, behaving recklessly was now a choice rather than a mandatory expectation. After hours of searching the interweb our wishes were granted by the Google Genie. Logging on to Stay In Style, the address promised much as did the enticing pictures. Burnt before by idyllic pledges of gîte tranquillity in the Dordogne (wouIdn't suggest here) contacted the proprietor whose equine tones assured me of nothing but well earned luxury.

“We’re hard to find online aren’t we? Well we only want to be found by those looking for something utterly special.”

So with a small group of ageing friends we headed West, to comfort, sophistication and fresh air in search of seclusion, space and taste . West Axnoller farm sits behind a ridge which surveys Dorset’s Jurassic Coast and keeps a watchful eye over the sleepy west country village of Beaminster home to the wonderfully honest food prepared by Mat Follas and his team at the Wild Garlic. A village populated by antique buildings with grand stone walls comforted by shawls of moss, complete with a variety shop selling everything yet nothing of desire and a local’s pub with little furniture. Beaminster is a picture of village life.

Standing on the polished floor of Voltaire an immaculate contemporary barn conversion in the grounds of West Axnoller farm we were greeted with a Fulham flush by the owner, Alo Brake.I can’t remember what she said but I couldn’t help but notice that Alo reflected the style direction of the interiors, polished, designed and glossy.

The entertaining space, complete with corian surface kitchen, open plan into slouchy sofas paying homage to B&B Italia, teamed with Asian darkwood. Six ensuites inhabited by billionaire thread count sheets, sleep coma mattresses and leave me alone bath tubs. A mature party house, putting the ‘u’ in luxury. Adjoining Voltaire, a private spa, a place to sip something fizzy whilst enjoying the sedative of pool living complete with sauna, steam room and hot tub for star gazing.

Oh yes this Dorset gem is equipped with everything required to make new memories, unashamedly indulgent, intimate and not a chance of being booked by the noise police.
