Firearm Jewellery Fights Guns
US based Liberty United is a jewellery line created from decommissioned guns and bullets. The brand aims to help take firearms off the streets, working with local governments to source guns no longer needed for evidence or collected in buyback programs. These are then recycled into jewellery by established designers, with each piece including the serial number of the gun used to make it.
A recent global study identified 2.5 billion 'aspirational consumers' (representing one third of the global consumer class). These consumers are defined by their love of shopping (78%), desire for responsible consumption (92%) and their trust in brands to act in the best interest of society (58%).

In 2000, while working in Africa, Peter Thum met people who didn’t have access to clean, safe drinking water.
In response, he created Ethos Water. In 2005 Ethos was acquired by Starbucks and has provided more than $7 million dollars in grants to fund water and sanitation programs for half a million people worldwide
In 2008, while working on water projects in Africa, Peter was once again inspired to act when he met boys and young men armed with assault rifles.
In 2009, to help reduce the number and impact of assault rifles in Africa, and small arms around the world, he founded Fonderie 47 (http://www.fonderie47.com ), with a uniquely inspiring mission: to recycle guns into jewellery and high art. His idea was that every piece would incorporate AK47 gun metal and bear the serial number of a weapon that Fonderie 47 had destroyed. Sales of these rare pieces in turn fund the removal and destruction of more weapons.
Fonderie 47 has created jewelry and art collaborations with world-class artists and artisans like Philip Crangi, Adrian Glessing, David Candaux, and James de Givenchy. To date, Fonderie 47 has removed and destroyed more than 34,000 assault rifles from conflict and post-conflict regions.
In 2012, Peter’s wife, actress Cara Buono, urged him to expand his mission to address gun violence in america. So, they started Liberty United.
Liberty United launched in spring 2013.
